The long-established Izu ryokan “Ochiairō,” founded in 1874 (Meiji 7), has welcomed renowned literary figures such as Shimazaki Tōson and Yasunari Kawabata. Seven areas—including all guest rooms—are registered as Tangible Cultural Properties. With a traditional architecture and hospitality refined over many years, Ochiairō is a hot-spring inn that has received Michelin Keys for two consecutive years since 2024.

We feature a Nordic square barrel sauna by totonoü, a company engaged in importing and selling Nordic saunas as well as developing sauna products for Japan. In a calm space wrapped in the scent of wood, feel the heat gently seep in—then at night, gaze up at a sky full of stars. Enjoy a sauna experience that harmonizes with nature and deeply relaxes both body and mind.

Tengu-no-Yu: Thermal Spring

A mixed-gender thermal spring where guests enter wearing swimsuits or yuyami (bathing attire). Wearing swimsuits, couples, friends, and families can enjoy this new style of hot-spring experience together.

Our “Manga Library,” curated by Tsutaya Books, offers a wide range of classic manga that you can enjoy freely all day. Inspired by the Adachi family’s bookshelf from Ochiairō’s early days, we have selected only timeless masterpieces, mainly from the early to mid Shōwa era.

Cultural Property Tour

A tour led by Ochiairō’s host, visiting the Tangible Cultural Properties scattered throughout the building. Along with historical episodes dating back to the Meiji era, enjoy the architectural beauty created through outstanding traditional craftsmanship.

Suspension Bridge

A charming suspension bridge where sunlight filters through the trees overhead and two rivers meet beneath your feet. Feel the blessings of Izu’s nature and enjoy a leisurely stroll.

Approx. 2.5–3 hours from the Greater Tokyo area to Ochiairō (varies depending on traffic). About 45 minutes from the Shin-Tōmei Expressway Nagaizumi-Numazu IC or the Tōmei Expressway Numazu IC.

EV charging (including Tesla): available to apply for after completing your reservation.

By train

From the Tōkaidō Shinkansen Mishima Station or the Izu Hakone Railway Sunzu Line Shuzenji Station, please use the taxi, shuttle service, or bus below.

Shuttle service from Shuzenji Station North Exit at: 14:15 / 15:15 / 16:15 / 17:15
If you would like to use the shuttle, please contact us at least 3 days in advance with your arrival time at Shuzenji Station.
Shuttles operate round-trip with two TOYOTA Alphard vehicles (capacity 7 each). Reservations are first-come, first-served; you may share the ride with other guests or be asked to adjust timing.
For plans with 16:00 check-in, please choose a shuttle time from 15:15 onward.
